Prologue: The Death of Roger Alanson.

Warm yourself by the fire, son
And the morning will come soon
I’ll tell you stories of a better time
In a place that we once knew

I jumped on top of the truck that five seconds ago was meant for my life, I looked at the rapidly retreating shadow making its way to the back of the alley, my target was getting away. Always had to be the thrice-damned Ambrosia-heads didn’t it? I’m always taking out the symptoms, whilst the virus gets away. “No time to complain about the state of today’s police force, that little bastidge is getting away!” my 6th sense tells me, I run after the shadow, chasing it, trapping it, cornering it. After near three minutes of running, my prey runs into a dead end, and I finally get a good look at him.

“Are you kidding me!?! This one’s probably only eleven!” the 6th sense screams in outrage. Estimate five-foot-four, the kid’s face is obscured by a raccoon mask, but he forgot to cover up the entirety of his skin, a bit of green pigment gave off the tell-tale sign of a xeno, poor kid probably ran away from home and this was his only recourse. “Quit writing this freak’s biography and focus! He’s trapped like a rat, now he’ll fight like one!” The thought nearly cost me my life, as the kid whips out a pistol and opens fire, I dodge to the best of my abilities, but the bullets graze my arm. My cloak’s sleeve rips and my own green skin shows, the kid stops, obviously noticing my flesh, he hesitates slightly, his own wishes to see one of his kind fighting with the Ambrosia’s wishes to see me dead.
………………………...
As always, the Ambrosia wins, and he dashes forward and places the pistol into dark hood of my cloak, he finds my chin, I feel the cold steel cylinder pressing against my scales, a second later I feel the bullet rip through my head and into my brain, I fall to the ground.

Roger Alanson is dead…again.

Before we packed our bags
And left this behind us in the dust
We had a place that we could call home
And a life no one could touch

Chapter 1: The Madman arrives.

Well, I built me a raft and she's ready for floatin'
ol' Mississippi, she's callin' my name
Catfish are jumpin' that paddle wheel thumpin'
Black water keeps rollin' on past just the same

Location: New Topeka
Year: 265 A.N (After Nukes)
Dimension: 345-F2

KRA-KOR!
A thunderous boom sounds as the very fabric of space-time rips open, an ovoid craft crashes into the ground of what was once a farmer's field. There are several bangs heard from inside.
"Sir, I think the door is stuck!"
"That's ridiculous! Let me see it."
THUD!
THUD!
THUD!
Several dents appear in the craft's door.
THUD!
The door bursts open, and a creature that could only be described as a humanoid Pterodactyl stumbles through and falls face first on the ground. From inside an electronic voice cackles and says, "Well at least it's open! Hahaha!" The Pterodactyl sits up, and growls back at the ship,"Shut it you."

A teenage human walks out, carrying a small orange object, the teenager looks around at the horrifying landscape, a virtual wasteland with the only light seeming to come from a far of city, he says, "Boy is this place a dump, or WHAT? Don't you think so Mr.Pteroid?" The thing called Pteroid adjusts his shirt collar, "This place endured three nuclear wars, it's not gonna be Martha's Vineyard. Which brings me to another point," Pteroid points at the object, "Why do I have to wear this fruity number?" The object makes another electronic cackle, "Because, although the humans won't balk at the mere sight of you, although they might be a bit distressed about you being in, what they consider to be, the nude."

The teenager joins the object in laughing as Pteroid shakes with anger, he points at the two and then at the city, "Get going!" he shouts angrily. The trio make their way towards the city, their mission is of utmost importance, their aliases are their only identities, their lives...are neverending.

Well, if it rains, I don't care, don't make no difference to me
Just take that street car that's goin' up town
Yeah, I'd like to hear some funky Dixieland and dance a honky tonk,
and I'll be buyin' everybody drinks all round

Chapter 2: New Topeka

Pteroid and his companions walked (or in the object's case, carried) towards the city, reaching the very outskirts of the city, they pass through a shanty town inhabited by the dregs of the city. Alien migrants and homeless humans wander in and out of dirty hovels, the Teenager looks at Pteroid, aprehension on his face, "This is horrible!" said the young human. Pteroid lit a cigarette blew a stream of smoke into the air, "You'll see many things like this in the line of duty Tom. You can't avoid it, you can only shut your eyes til' it goes away."

Several hours later.

After picking their way through the city, and having to periodicaly ask directions, the group stood before a rundown vacant lot, Tom looked at Pteroid and grimaced, "I thought we were supposed to locate agent R.A-" He was cut off by a walkway sprouting from what appeared to be mid-air, and the cloaked form of Roger Alanson greeted them from the doorway, "Welcome," he said, "Thought you'd never make it."

Chapter 3: The Briefing

A long, long time ago...
I can still remember
How that music used to make me smile.
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people dance
And, maybe, they’d be happy for a while.

Pteroid and Tom (with the object on his lap) sat around a circular table while Roger stood, still shrouded in his cloak, in front of a large screen. Taking out a remote, Roger pressed a button and the screen came to life showing a map of New Topeka. "Spiffy map Rog," Pteroid commented, an eyebrow raised. "Thank you old friend, but I believe that we have other things to talk about." Roger took off the hood of his cloak to reveal a human face.

Tom gasped, "You're human!?" he looked at Pteroid with confusion, Pteroid shrugged, and Tom looked back to see that Roger's face had taken on features usually associated with a T-Rex. The creature let loose a rasping chuckle, "When I need to be." "Roger's a shape-shifter, which makes him very valuable in these settings. Roger, this is Tom, my apprentice, and this little annoyance," Pteroid pointed at the object, "Is our navigator/intelligence officer/ blah-diddy-blah."

The object made an agitated sound and said, "I'm quite capable of communicating myself, thank you." To Roger it said, "I am Yarsminko's. Omni-intelligent. Ultili-droid; Y.O.U for short."

Roger nodded, "I see, well now that we've gotten introductions out of the way, let's get to business." Roger pressed another button which switched the image on the screen to show a small syringe containing a blue liquid, "This," he said, "Is Ambrosia, a very dangerous drug which has become increasingly popular amongst the New Topeka underground. I've analyzed the drug, and my readings show that it contains large amounts of sap from the Enjogex Tree of Vraxus Prime."
Pteroid arched an eyebrow, "Well, this is interesting."

Tom was confused, "Why?"

Both Roger's and Pteroid's explanations were cut off by Y.O.U, "Because, dear master Tom, the Enjogex Tree, nay, Vraxus Prime, doesn't even exsist in this dimension, which means someone is trafficing the substance between dimensions."

Tom scratched his head, "But I thought only the Dimensional Agents had that ability."

Pteroid looked at the boy, "True, but sometimes, agents don't do what they're supposed to. What we have here is a Rogue, and there's only one Rogue that's capable of this," Pteroid looked at Roger, "Moriarty?

Roger nodded, "Moriarty."

To be continued...

I can’t remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride,
But something touched me deep inside
The day the music died.

Chapter 4: Moriarty

I dress in blue-yes navy blue
From head to toe I'm rather drab except my patent shoes
I make 'em shine, well most the time
'Cept today my feet are troddin' on by this friend of mine
Six foot two and rude as hell
I got to get him in the ground before he starts to smell
My name is Mud

"Who's Moriarty?" Asked Tom concern growing on his face. Pteroid and Roger looked down at Y.O.U, who sighed, "Go ahead, I won't interupt."

Pteroid began,

"Moriarty is the codename of one Angel Sinclair, he turned rogue nearly ten years ago, and all attempts to catch him have failed, he's as slippery and clever as the villan with which he shares his namesake. As Sherlock Holmes once said, 'He is the Napoleon of crime!'"

Roger nodded, "And it's my guess that he's been hiding out here as of late, running this little drug empire, getting richer and richer. I haven't got a clue to where he is, or who he's masquerading as. But if you three are backing me up, I think we'll have a better chance of catching the bastard. Which brings me to another subject."

Roger pressed down on the remote again and the syringe is shown again. "I believe you should know what we're up against, as I'm sure the little robot knows, Ambrosia makes it's user Super-Fast, Super-Strong, and extremely blood-thirsty. If taken regularly, the user will turn into this..."

Roger pressed another button to show what appeared to be a common wolf-anthro.

Tom grimaced, "What's the big deal? It's not the first substance to turn a human into an anthro."

Roger shook his head, "These are not ordinary anthro's, these are anthro's taken down the evolutionary ladder about six notches. They are to regular anthros, what neanderthals are to humans. They are without thought and emotion, the only thing they listen too is the Ambrosia pounding into their heads, screaming 'KILL KILL KILL! They are dependent on only the drug and nothing else."

Pteroid mulled this over in his head, "What makes you say that."

Roger's face took on a grave expression, "I cornered one of them, one night, and gave him the option of either dying or going off the Ambrosia. And...he shot himself. They are without rational when they get to this stage, all they care about is getting more of the drug. And they'll do anything, or listen to anyone, to do it. Even Moriarty. That's why we've got to find him and stop him, at any cost necessary."

I've got my pride, I drink my wine
I'd drink the finest except I haven't earned a dime in several months
Or were it years
The breath on that fat bastard could bring any man to tears
We had our words, a common spat
So I kissed him upside the cranium with an aluminum baseball bat
My name is Mud

Chapter 5: Undercover...well sorta

Got your education from just hangin' around
You got your brain from a hole in the ground

Three hours after the briefing...

Pteroid looked around the dark building known as the "Starlight Bar", all around him patron's conversed, argued, and drank noisely. Roger (disguised as a human) was at the bar talking with the bartender, Y.O.U was over-seeing the operation from Roger's ship, and Tom was trailing a 'lead' somewhere outside the bar. "Any luck?" Pteroid whispered over his comm-unit. "Bartender's got nothing," said Rodney; "This guy's more erratic than a sugared-up butterfly, I can barely keep a bead on 'im!" said Tom. "Keep after him," commanded Pteroid, he felt a tap on his shoulder, he turned around to see a figure in a dark overcoat, "I know who you are, and I know who yer after. He's hidden himself in plain sight, and capturing him will not be easy, but you can do it." Pteroid wanted to ask this person (?) some questions, but another tap, got his attention.

Well not so much the tap, as the punch that came with it...

With porcelain eyes and the mind of a monkey
Rode into town on the back of what looked like a dead donkey
So I do, to you, what a puppet master would do
Can you tell?

To be contiued...
