Form the overhanig balcony, surrounded by plexiglass, a black leather robe claps the tips of his sleeves for attention.
"Quiet down, everyone, *click* El Quieto."
The murmering in the crowd below fades. The robe nods his hood, satisfied.
"Welcome to the Forum RP training class, wherein I, Masterweaver, shall teach you the necessary skills for playing Forum-based RPs. I apologize for the sparse decor, but this is the best I could get on such short notice."
Indeed, the room is rather drab. The floor is covered in meter-long square grey tiles and the walls are arrayed ith small circular devices of unknown purpose. There is a double door on the southern wall, but no other apparent break can be seen.
"Now firstly, I shall teach you about characterization."
The robe presses a button in the balcony, which clearly is the control station for this strange room. A small hologram of an elven ranger, female, with brown hair and wearing a green weather-worn set of clothes, appears in the middle of the room.
"It is imperative that you make a character. You can make anything you want be it beautiful--"
Another button is pressed, and the elf metamorphoses into a large, oozing green-skinned male thing with more muscle than brain, wielding a club and wearing a loincloth.
"--or savage. The most important thing to remember is that nobody can see your character. It is up to you, and you alone, to fully flesh out your character's appearance. However, this is easily attainable in one sentence, if you compress the details."
The hologram disappears.
"I'm going to pause now for questions, and to let you all practice your descriptive flair. Normally, I'd hold sign-ups for an RP, but this is an open-door lesson, so you all can come." |

Im sure the people on this forum do not need a lesson in forum RPs. Most just prefer Chat. Try not to push so hard for forum RPs. Try a few of the others RPs out and see how they go. Build a reputation with people. Most people do not like to jump into something when they do not know the GM. With a good reputation, you should not find it hard to start an RP that everyone will enjoy.

Actually, I wound be intrested in getting a dialog going about it. I've had a number of discussions about forum RPs and I love talking about the theory of it. Things like "Is it better to post in 1st person or 3rd person?" and such. (3rd is the better option in a forum RP).
Although if were were to do this, I think it'd be silly to go over things that apply to chat RPs as well. This characterization lesson for example, this stage of the RP is the same for both chat and forum. For example, the main point here about others not being able to see your character applies equally to both forum *and* chat RPs. _________________

A vibrantly colored and flaming fox smashes through the door in apparent fury.
"What part of 'We Prefer Chat Roleplays' did you miss this morning!" the fox shouts at the robe, jumping up to his balcony in a brilliant display of color. "You couldn't leave well enough alone and decided that we, the 'uneducated masses' need to be tutored, by you of all people, critters or things, in how to act in a system we do not care for nor believe in to a large extent."
The fox sighs before glaring at the robe once more.
"You do not seem to understand that we do not care for this system, as many of us have our own lives and need to tend to them. Also, these types of Roleplays is more like a group story activity and less like an actual role play. To do so, you do not need to insult us with an obvious air of superiority you seem to believe you have."
He takes another deep breath, apparently thinking what next to say before he continued.
"Furthermore, if someone does not want to do something you don't want them to, you do not need to start by insisting upon them to do it, condescend them, or try to teach them how to do things. They are fully capable of doing it themselves if they are, in fact, interested; which not many around here seem to be."
The fire goes out and the fox gives one last stern glance at the robe.
"Now listen. What I suggest you do is not try to push an ideal on the people here. They do not want to do this, they do not care to do this, and they prefer if we do it all at once, instead of streaching it out endlessly until someone sees fit to kill them all (And that will most likely be the GM [I.E. You.]) For the last time; please stop trying to push forum Roleplays here, and trying to 'teach' us what we do not want to 'learn'"
With that, the fox jumps off the balcony and walks out of the room, twitching his tail from side to side in an irritated manner, slamming the doors behind him. _________________ If you kill something that's dead, you unkill it which is the same as dying but backwards.
